Module 1: Background and scope of guidance

  • Background, scope and important information on COVID-19

 

Module 2: Health and safety legislation pertaining to COVID-19

  • Overview of the health and safety legislation, statues and directives pertaining to COVID-19

 

Module 3: COVID-19 employer, employee and third-party obligations 

  • Employer, employee and 3rd party obligations

  • COVID-19 Classification

  • Workplace protocols in place that would include disease surveillance and prevention of Medical surveillance

  • Symptom monitoring and management

  • Reporting authorities and emergency contact details

 

Module 4: How to conduct a COVID-19 HIRA 

  • Dept of Employment and Labour Workplace – Preparedness for COVID-19

  • Performing a COVID-19 risk assessment

  • Select a suitable risk assessment report (practical workplace example included)

  • Practical explanations of the steps that needs to be followed during the HIRA.

  • How to classify the worker exposure in your organisation (including the identification of people who are at higher risk for severe Illness)

  • Identify appropriate measures to control the spread of COVID-19

  • Preventing spread of infection through the application of a COVID-19 hierarchy of control (Engineering controls, Administrative controls, Safe Work Practices and Personal Protective Equipment like gloves, masks and sanitisers)

  • Managing the health and safety for employees that work from home

 

Module 5: Processing of COVID-19 claims 

  • Aim and main objective of the COIDA

  • Compensation Fund and licences

  • Employer, employees and dependants

  • Criteria and diagnosis for occupational diseases - COVID-19

  • Claims procedure, documentation and submissions of COVID 19 claims

 

Module 6: COVID-19 Communication 

  • Informing employees of COVID 19 related information

  • Lines for COVID 19 communication, preparing communications strategies

  • What to say to employees?

  • Use of COVID-19 educational information (web links to information)

 

Module 7: Health and safety representatives and committees 

  • The role of health and safety representatives and committees in the management of COVID-19

 

Module 8: Reporting, recording and investigation of COVID-19 related cases 

  • Reporting of occupational injuries and diseases to the employer

  • Correct reporting of occupational diseases to the authorities

  • Record keeping requirements

  • Prescribed Investigation for COVID-19 incidents

 

Purpose of the Course: 

After the initial lockdown period, as part of South Africa’s risk adjusted strategy for economic activity, some employers would be allowed to reopen their businesses from the 1st of May 2020.

 

One of the critical requirements during the pandemic will be to provide and maintain a safe and healthy work environment. This course was compiled to assist employers in this regard. It will provide attendees with critical information in order to manage COVID-19 effectively within their particular work environment.
