Teistering

Elke individu moet met waardigheid en respek in die werksplek hanteer te word. Teistering ongeag die aard daarvan spreek tot niemand se voordeel nie, en kan nie toegelaat word in die werksplek nie.

Dit is die plig van werkgewers om hulle werkers te beskerm teen teistering en om hulle in te lig en te onderrig in hierdie aangeleentheid. 

Teistering is ʼn insident wat met ʼn individu in die werkplek gebeur het wat onwelkom, ongevraagd en wat ʼn vernietigende effek kan hê. Voorbeelde van teistering sluit die volgende in:

  • Baasspelery, karnuffelry, afknouery, boelie;
  • Die verspreiding van kwaadwillige gerugte, om iemand te beledig, veral met betrekking tot geslag, ras of ongeskiktheid;
  • Om iemand te spot of ʼn bespotting van iemand te maak - op hulle te pik of hulle
  • Viktimisasie;
  • Onbillike behandeling wat gebaseer is op, geslag, seksuele oriëntasie, swangerskap, ouderdom, geloof, HIV status ensovoorts;
  • Misbruik van mag of posisie;
  • Die maak van ongegronde dreigemente of aanmerkings rakende werk sekeriteit;
  • Doelbewus ʼn bevoegde werker ondermyn deur hom te oorlaai met werk of aanhoudende ongegronde kritiek;
  • Om te voorkom dat individue vorder deur doelbewus hulle bevorderings moontlikhede en opleidings geleenthede te blokkeer.

Dit is nodig dat werknemers stappe neem teen teistering aangesien dit nie alleenlik  onaanvaarbaar op morele gronde is nie,  maar kan ook probleme vir die organisasie veroorsaak in terme van:

  • Skending van menseregte;
  • Swak moraal en swak werknemer verhoudinge;
  • Dit hou ʼn bedreiging vir die fisiese en psigiese prestasie van die werknemers in;
  • Dit eindig baie dikwels in die onverklaarbare afwesigheid van die werknemers, laatkommery en swak konsentrasie by die werk. Dit veroorsaak ʼn vyandige intimiderende en onaanvaarbare werk omgewing wat kan lei tot die verlies van  produktiwiteit of kan selfs aanleiding gee dat werkers bedank.

Individue wat geteister word kan die volgende riglyne volg:

  • Hou rekord van al die insidente, maak aantekeninge oor die tyd en datum, potensiële getuies sowel as wat gebeur het;
  • Eerstens kan daar gepoog word om informeel direk met die teisteraar te praat, neem  ʼn getuie saam. Individue kan ook ʼn formele klagte indien deur gebruik te maak van die griewe prosedure; 
  • Kontak jou unie vakbond indien jy aan een behoort. Indien jy nie aan ʼn vakbond behoort nie, kontak die maatskappy se personeel bestuurder of iemand anders in ʼn posisie van outoriteit , soos byvoorbeeld jou toesighouer of ʼn senior bestuurder.
  • Indien jy vir ʼn kleiner besigheid werk en die bogenoemde keuses is nie tot jou beskikking nie, kontak die KBVA vir hulp rakende jou regte in terme van die arbeids wetgewing.
  • Wanneer die aangeleentheid rapporteer is, moet die maatskappy (of unie) die saak ondersoek.
